A Journey Begins
Every crystal carries a story, but sometimes the most powerful story isn’t about the stone itself—it’s about the journey it inspires. This month, I want to share more on my husband’s story, because it perfectly illustrates how crystals can serve as reminders, tools of focus, and companions for the road ahead (literally and figuratively)—even for someone who wasn’t sure he fully believed in their power.
It was in January of 2021 that Ian pulled out of the driveway of our Long Island home in our old GMC with our small boat in tow. A blizzard was coming and the snowflakes had just started to fall. Shan and I stood on the porch and she yelled out, “Go and chase your dreams!!!” Off he went, equipped with three crystals I had chosen for his ride:
Hematite – a grounding stone that helps keep the mind sharp and alert, while also easing stress and fatigue on long journeys.
Tiger’s Eye – believed to protect travelers, offering the courage of a tiger and confidence behind the wheel.
Carnelian – known to boost focus, energy, and motivation while also guarding against accidents and injury during travel.
Together, these stones created a trifecta for safe, energized, and focused travel, while symbolizing both protection and forward courageous motion.
Stepping Into the Unknown
Ian is deeply traditional and steadfastly loyal. He values the familiar and takes thoughtful time with decisions, rather than rushing into change. While it’s a wonderful trait in a husband, it also means he tends to hold on tightly to the familiar, not rushing into change or making drastic decisions. Even though it meant Shannon and I would be on our own with the inevitable snow shoveling, our hearts were bursting with pride as we watched him drive off into a future of unseen new and exciting possibilities. From our driveway in New York to his Airbnb in St. Petersburg, that boat trailed behind at every fast-food stop and even the bank to get the checks needed for his upcoming purchase of the business. I watched his location like a hawk and anxiously awaited the news on how the meeting went.
When I finally spoke to him, he was elated that everything had gone quite well—but let me know that I had forgotten something important: I hadn’t given him crystals for the most important part of this trip, the actual business transaction! Ian was right and I was apologetic but quickly reassured me by letting me know he had taken matters into his own hands. Ian visited a charming crystal shop in Gulfport: Qi Energy, where the owner Melissa ironically helped him pick out the same crystals I had offered him a month before:
Citrine – (my personal favorite!) the classic stone of prosperity, wealth, and success, often carried to support business ventures.
Green Aventurine – a stone of opportunity, believed to attract luck and abundance while encouraging confidence in new endeavors.
Clear Quartz – the master healer and amplifier, known to magnify the energies of other stones and bring mental clarity for decision-making.
This set formed the perfect energetic toolkit for manifesting prosperity, opening new doors, and ensuring Ian walked into his business deal with clarity and confidence.
The Power of Intention
The fact that he noticed what he was missing and sought out crystals touched me deeply—not because Ian suddenly became a believer in crystal energy, but because he understood the importance of intention setting. He saw value in having something tangible to hold, to focus on, and to remind him of where he wanted to be.
As Ian sees it: the power isn’t necessarily in the crystal itself, but in the focus it brings. He uses the metaphor of driving too fast into a curve on a wooded road. If you focus on the trees you fear hitting, that’s where you’ll end up. But if you focus on the open space between the trees—on where you want to go—your mind and body naturally steer you there. This, Ian says, is a powerful metaphor for life: Focus your energy on your goals, not your fears.
Finding the Spaces Between the Trees
Making the choice to live with intention carves the path forward, and the signs that appear along the way are undeniable. Energy-laden crystals, vision boards that spark your Reticular Activating System, and mindful journaling all serve as tools to anchor those intentions into daily life. Whether seen as magical allies or simply as symbols of beauty and focus, they help lift you toward the life of your dreams…much like Dumbo’s feather, reminding him he could soar all along.🪽
