Unsinkable Manifestation: Weathering Storms & Building a Dream
Three days after signing our lease and the night before Hurricane Helene, we were out on the town, planning our dream store & setting our intentions.
Celebrating the Best of the Bay 2024
On September 26, 2024, Shannon, my husband, and I scored last-minute tickets to the sold-out Best of the Bay event at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. Hurricane Helene was on the radar, and a few folks had changed their plans. We were thrilled to go—not just for the fun-filled event itself, but to set our own intentions for the following year.
We had dreamt of being nominated in 2025 for our soon-to-open metaphysical store, and what better way to manifest that than by soaking in the energy of this celebration? We quickly prepped and evacuated our apartments before heading out to the Hard Rock, leaving our cat and some overnight bags at my friend Tammy’s for what we thought was to be a short respite.
Celebrating Local Businesses on the Eve of Helene
Tampa Bay is bursting with community events that champion small business success, and Creative Loafing is often the host of many. This particular event has long been one of our favorites. Despite the looming hurricane, the evening delivered unforgettable entertainment, lively activities, delicious food, and fantastic company. We even ran into our good friend Johnny and the Hookin’ Ain’t Easy crew, who were there celebrating their well-earned nominations.
Noticeably absent this year was the winning favorite local meteorologist, Denis Phillips—likely holed up with a stash of Diet Dr. Pepper, calmly reminding us all of Rule #7: Don’t Freak Out. Thankfully, the crowd we were with shared our sense of temporary but hopeful abandon. We danced, ate, drank, and tried our luck at the tables, all while crossing our fingers that the storm wouldn’t live up to its warnings.
When One Door Closes….
Metaphysically Me’s lease was set to begin on October 1, but just three days later, mighty Milton followed along. It blew out our windows and ceiling tiles, sending shattered glass down the Blind Pass and Corey intersection like a sick version of a welcome parade for our new neighbors. It became clear that our dream of joining Corey Avenue would have to wait—as our neighbors-to-be went straight into salvage mode.
What we thought would be a quick one- or two-night sleepover at Tammy’s turned into 198 nights. We’re only just now back in our St. Pete Beach apartments and happy to report that are extremely grateful and still friends with Tammy.
The store is now in its final stage of renovation, and we anxiously await filling it with a years worth of carefully curated crystals & minerals from around the world. Friends, family, our landlord, and the contractors have shown us so much kindness and grace. The local community, including the Corey Avenue Business Association (CABA), the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber, the City of St. Pete Beach, market vendors and visitors, have welcomed us with open arms. We’ve been fortunate in meeting so many of our customers at the Corey Avenue Sunday Farmer’s Market, the weekend Craft Festivals, and other wonderful CABA events.
Unsinkable Dreams
Our grand opening will be one for the books. We’re excited to breathe new life into the historic cornerstone bank building, transforming it into a metaphysical gathering place for hearts, minds, and community. Here, people can come together to manifest their best lives yet. We’ll be offering classes, workshops, holistic services, and uplifting talismans to wear, statement pieces to display, classes enjoy, and educational events to inspire.
As an update to our dream (and yes, it is on our vision boards): We’ve officially made it into the voting categories under Shopping > Best Metaphysical Store in Tampa Bay Times Best of the Best contest! And as if that weren’t enough cosmic alignment, it’s time for Creative Loafing’s Best of the Bay 2025 nominations!
